The Streets of Nampula

It has been difficult to get nice pictures here in Nampula because it never seems appropriate to wander around with your camera taking pictures of random places and people.  Today while we were out and about, using my cell phone camera, I snapped a few pictures around town (sorry for the poor quality...some were through a dirty windshield or while we were moving!).

Crazy-old truck full of sacks of charcoal

Sacks of charcoal
Most Mozambicans cook over charcoal and it is common to see someone with a sack of charcoal (or two) on the back of their bicycle  riding slowly through town.

Moving day?

Vendors set up on any empty spot on the sidewalk all through the city
Old Navy
People often walk around the city carrying items they are trying to sell...often windshield wipers, brooms, etc.  Sometimes someone will be carrying around just a couple pairs of shoes or pants.  One day a man offered to sell me a pair of pink pants, the only item he had to sell at that moment.  I wonder how often they find just the right buyer for items so specific!

Goats for sale!

Lixo (trash) piles with kids trying to find something useful.

Roadside chicken stand

Trees in the middle of the road are great for giving directions when you don't have street signs!

Stop lights are a little rare in the city, but it is funny to see one on a dirt road!

Carrying a bale of used clothes

Often, secondhand clothes come here in bales.  As a result, we see a lot of American logos on t-shirts around town.

Road repair seems to only last a few days...
